From deep within a wet Humboldt County, CA forest we bring you an xmas miracle: a ray of sunshine after about a month of nonstop rain.
We went on a hike on private forest land where we know the forester in charge.
Besides being a good example of a sustainably logged forest (the last time it was selectively logged was in the late 1980’s) it is also an area full of great hikes and superb mushroom hunting.
That is about half of one of our hauls dry sautéing. On the hike this holiday we found enough mushrooms to fill that pan about four times over and will be adding them to salads, rice and pasta dishes for the next few days. Score!
