After being burgled along the Mogollon Rim we just needed to get away from that spot which had caused us so much grief and so decided to head towards Winslow, Arizona to see that famous corner. We would have eventually headed up into Flagstaff but needed a distraction and this was only a bit out-of-the-way. The Waze app knew what we meant when we asked it to lead us to “that famous corner in Winslow, Arizona” and led us to Standing On The Corner Park. We soon pulled down the little side street that is perpendicular to Route 66 and creates the corner the song mentions. For the uninitiated the song is Take It Easy off the self-titled debut album Eagles unsurprisingly by The Eagles. Great song and the band is in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame which is no small accomplishment.
While the main focus of visitors is the actual statue on the corner there is more than just that there. Essentially half the block on that side of the side street is part of the attraction. There is a small curbside “parklet” with some shade trees and benches that seem to be used mainly by some of the resident friendly, non-pushy homeless population.
I didn’t get a good picture of the intersection and so here it is from way above so you get the idea.
For decades, I had always wanted to stop by this corner if I was ever in the area. As a quick little side trip was just what we needed to take our minds of thieving scumbags it was fortuitous we were near here for this fun, quick excursion. Glad we made it.
